Early detection of type 1 diabetes

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) doesn’t begin with symptoms. The immune attack that causes the condition often develops silently for months or years, which is why many people are diagnosed only after becoming seriously unwell. Early detection can change this.

Thanks to decades of research, we now have the ability to identify who’s at risk of developing T1D, catch the condition as it starts to develop, and even delay the need to start treating the condition with insulin. Find out how early detection works, why it matters, and how you can access screening for yourself, your child or someone you care for.

Early detection means fewer surprises and more support. Knowing earlier can help you avoid a sudden, emergency diagnosis and face what’s ahead with more information, choice and confidence.
