Two young people with type 1 diabetes laughing and chatting together at a youth ambassador meet up

The T1 Mentors stage of the programme is for young people aged 17-25, who have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

What happens?

When you become a T1 Mentor we’ll ask you to do some tasks to raise awareness of T1D and how it affects your life. We’ll ask you to fundraise or volunteer at one of our events, to help raise money for vital T1D research. And we’ll invite you to online and in-person events to help you build your own T1D community for peer support.

What will I get?

You’ll get a Welcome Pack with tips and ideas for your tasks, and a copy of our Volunteer Handbook with all the information you’ll need to get involved. You’ll have the chance to meet researchers and decision makers, to tell them what really matters to you, and you can use your own experiences to support other young people living with T1D. When you’ve done all your tasks, you’ll get a T1 Mentors certificate, and we’ll write you a reference about your volunteering that you can use for college, university, or job applications.
