Event Crew (Discovery Day)

The Discovery Day Event Crew is a dedicated team of volunteers who ensure our Breakthrough T1D Discovery Day events run seamlessly. Their efforts help us raise maximum awareness about life with type 1 diabetes and generate crucial funds for transformative research.

What will I be doing?

  • Assist with preparing the venue before attendees arrive, and support tidying up and packing down the venue after the event concludes.
  • Provide a warm welcome and assist with attendee check-in upon arrival.
  • Help attendees navigate the venue and address any questions they might have.
  • Assist in workshops and activities specifically designed for children and young people.
  • Participate in facilitated conversations on type 1 diabetes topics, sharing insights and fostering meaningful dialogue.

What skills or experience do I need?

  • Positive attitude to help attendees feel welcome and confident to share their stories.
  • Willing to be part of a busy team in an active role.
  • Organised and adaptable to change – your role might change throughout the day.

When do you need me?

Our Discovery Day information events take place throughout the year. You can see the programme for the Discovery Days throughout 2025 in the section below.

We’ll provide you with the specific timings for each event, but typically, we’ll ask you to arrive around 8am to assist with setup and by 9am before attendees begin to arrive. The Discovery Day information events usually run until 3pm.

Where will I be based?

Our Discovery Day information events take place all over the UK. Take a look at the dates and venues for our Discovery Days in 2025 below. You can use this form to tell us which events you’re interested in volunteering at.

  • 29th March 2025 – Falkirk Football Club, 6 Stadium Way, Falkirk, Scotland FK2 9EE
  • May 2025 – Belfast (exact date and venue TBC)
  • June 2025 – Newcastle (exact date and venue TBC)
  • September 2025 – London (exact date and venue TBC)
  • October 2025 – Cardiff (exact date and venue TBC)
  • November 2025 – Birmingham (exact date and venue TBC)

What training and support will I receive?

When you sign up to become a volunteer, we’ll send you a copy of our Volunteer Handbook and any relevant policies you’ll need to know about.

We’ll invite you to a virtual briefing to meet the team and review the event details, including your role(s) for the day based on your preferences. You’ll also receive a briefing document with all the information you need, along with contact details for the staff member in charge, so you can easily reach out with any questions.
