We are very sad to announce the death of Nicholas Peter James Logan – known to everyone as Nick – the son of Joan Ingram and Enda Logan, who are long-time supporters of JDRF. Nick has sadly passed away peacefully in his sleep, through complications of type 1 diabetes, at his home in Edinburgh. He was 28 years old and was diagnosed with the condition at age 16.
Karen Addington, CEO of JDRF UK, said: “I am devastated for the Logan family. Type 1 diabetes is a cruel condition that is life threatening and truly challenging to manage and I am sorry and angry that it has taken so much from Nick, and from his family. JDRF will continue to work hard to find cures for type 1. Nick will always remain in our hearts.”
In the words of his many friends, he was a beloved ‘brother’ to all – fun to be around, full of good humour, sharp wit, and unbounded optimism. He had a self-reliant determination to live his life to the full, and never in the shadow of type 1.
Nick travelled the world – including North America, Africa, and all over Europe – having adventures and making friends everywhere he went. He made his family immensely proud with his bravery and his achievements in life. All those who knew him will miss his sweet nature and easy charisma, his fellowship and his fun. He was simply unique.
The Logan Family have been instrumental over the years in raising awareness of type 1 diabetes and fundraising for JDRF. They feel a positive way to honour Nick’s life would be to contribute, if you wish, by donating to Nick’s ‘in memory’ fundraising page. Enda says: “By helping JDRF fulfil its mission to find a cure for type 1 diabetes, you will bring comfort to Nick’s family today and help all of us bring an end to this relentless invisible condition and its damaging effects.”
