Novo Nordisk has announced that it will stop producing Levemir insulin by the end of 2026. If you currently use Levemir, this news may be concerning, but there are plans in place to help you transition smoothly to an alternative.
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), NHS England, and clinical experts are working together to provide guidance and support. A Medicines Supply Notification will be issued to help prescribers understand what alternative options are available.
We understand that changes to medication can be unsettling, but there is time to discuss your options. The withdrawal date at the end of 2026 gives you and your healthcare professional the opportunity to find the best alternative for you.
You don’t need to book an appointment yourself. Your healthcare team will contact you to arrange one and decide which new insulin is best for you, based on your current treatment. They’ll make sure you’re trained on any new device, understand your dose, and feel confident managing your blood glucose. If you have any questions, please raise them with your healthcare team during your appointment.
