Young man and woman with type 1 diabetes using diabetes technologyNovo Nordisk has announced that it will stop producing Levemir insulin by the end of 2026. If you currently use Levemir, this news may be concerning, but there are plans in place to help you transition smoothly to an alternative.

What’s being done to help?

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), NHS England, and clinical experts are working together to provide guidance and support. A Medicines Supply Notification will be issued to help prescribers understand what alternative options are available.

What you need to do

We understand that changes to medication can be unsettling, but there is time to discuss your options. The withdrawal date at the end of 2026 gives you and your healthcare professional the opportunity to find the best alternative for you.

You do not need to book an extra or early appointment. Please wait until your next check-up to discuss the change.
