If you’d like to bust the myths and teach people the facts about type 1 diabetes, become a Breakthrough T1D UK Youth Ambassador to campaign and act for change.
Being a Breakthrough T1D UK Youth Ambassador is an important and exciting role. Whether you hold an event at school or college, join a campaign to make life better for people living with T1D, or talk to other people about the realities of type 1, you’ll be helping to raise awareness about our cause and encourage people to donate to crucial research.
Choose the Youth Ambassador role that matches your age and learn more about what’s involved.
If you're aged 10 or under, sign up to our Rufus Club to get started on your Youth Ambassador journey.
If you’re aged 11 to 16, sign up to become a T1 Ambassador, to raise money for Breakthrough T1D and tell people what life with T1D is really like.
If you’re 17 to 25, share your experiences to support other young people living with T1D.
Supporting charities however you can, whether it’s volunteering, donating or just sharing a post on social media, is so rewarding! Meeting and hearing the stories of people who you’re helping, educating yourself about what’s going on in the community and actually seeing how the money raised is being spent are all things that drive me to give up my time and volunteer with Breakthrough T1D UK.

The Youth Ambassador Programme is for children and young people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). We support Youth Ambassadors to raise awareness of life with T1D, raise awareness of Breakthrough T1D’s work, and raise funds for life-changing research. Youth Ambassadors can meet other people their own age who are also living with T1D, take part in research opportunities, and develop useful skills for the future.
Children and young people up to the age of 25 who have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. There are three age groups within the programme:
When you sign up to be a Youth Ambassador, we’ll ask you to do some tasks to raise funds and awareness, and we’ll send you a Welcome Pack with information to help you do them. We’ll invite you to online meetings with other Youth Ambassadors to share what you’ve been doing, and to practice useful skills for your tasks. When you’ve completed your tasks, we’ll send you a certificate to say well done, and we can write you a reference that you can use for college, university, or job applications.
By joining the Youth Ambassador Programme, you’ll meet other people your own age who are also living with T1D so you can share your experiences and build a supportive T1 community. You’ll help Breakthrough T1D raise awareness of the important work we do and raise money to fund the research we support. You’ll also develop skills that will be useful to you in the future.
