JDRF has now rebranded to Breakthrough T1D.
Our name has changed, our mission has not.

Youth Ambassador Programme

If you’d like to bust the myths and teach people the facts about type 1 diabetes, become a Breakthrough T1D UK Youth Ambassador to campaign and act for change.

Being a Breakthrough T1D UK Youth Ambassador is an important and exciting role. Whether you hold an event at school or college, join a campaign to make life better for people living with T1D, or talk to other people about the realities of type 1, you’ll be helping to raise awareness about our cause and encourage people to donate to crucial research.

Choose the Youth Ambassador role that matches your age and learn more about what’s involved.

Youth Ambassador FAQs

Find the answers to your questions about the Youth Ambassador Programme. If you can’t find what you need, get in touch with the Youth Ambassador team at youthambassadors@breakthrought1d.org.uk

  • What is the Youth Ambassador Programme?

The Youth Ambassador Programme is for children and young people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). We support Youth Ambassadors to raise awareness of life with T1D, raise awareness of Breakthrough T1D’s work, and raise funds for life-changing research. Youth Ambassadors can meet other people their own age who are also living with T1D, take part in research opportunities, and develop useful skills for the future.

  • Who can join the Youth Ambassador Programme?

Children and young people up to the age of 25 who have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. There are three age groups within the programme:

    • – Rufus Club, for children aged 0-10 years
    • – T1 Ambassadors, for young people aged 11-16 years
    • – T1 Mentors, for young people aged 17-25 years
  • How does the Youth Ambassador Programme work?

When you sign up to be a Youth Ambassador, we’ll ask you to do some tasks to raise funds and awareness, and we’ll send you a Welcome Pack with information to help you do them. We’ll invite you to online meetings with other Youth Ambassadors to share what you’ve been doing, and to practice useful skills for your tasks. When you’ve completed your tasks, we’ll send you a certificate to say well done, and we can write you a reference that you can use for college, university, or job applications.

  • Why should I join the Youth Ambassador Programme?

By joining the Youth Ambassador Programme, you’ll meet other people your own age who are also living with T1D so you can share your experiences and build a supportive T1 community. You’ll help Breakthrough T1D raise awareness of the important work we do and raise money to fund the research we support. You’ll also develop skills that will be useful to you in the future.
